Tomorrow Full Bloom Pregnancy and Early Parenting Center on Milledge will be having a “Labor Day” Open House from 10-3. Music time, a baby fashion show, story time, exhibits, a bake sale, crafters and more! The event is free but Full Bloom is taking donations for a family who just lost their father in a tragic accident. Please consider donating diapers, wipes, gift cards, or any baby items for this family.
I almost forgot! Today is the first day for Kidsignments, the largest kid’s consignment sale in the state. There are 1400 sellers in one location, at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. The sale goes through Saturday and it’s worth making the trip. I went last year and was amazed. Click here for more information.
If you’ve decided that a luxurious vacation just isn’t in the cards for you this summer, consider a “staycation” instead. There are plenty of things to do locally, and many of them are family friendly and wallet friendly. Here’s the best that the area has to offer:
~Sandy Creek park costs just $2 to get in. Once you’re there, take advantage of the beach, playground, walking trails, and sports areas. Kayak and canoe rentals are available for just $5 an hour. Bear Hollow at Memorial Park has lots of animals to see; donations are accepted in place of an admission fee.
~The Athens Clarke County Leisure Services department has lots of events and activities for kids and families throughout the year. From kayaking to contra dancing to fishing tournaments, see www.accleisureservices.com for a full calendar of events with prices.
~Scope out the websites or social media sites of your favorite locations for deals, promotions and coupons. Funopolis Family Fun Center in Commerce has coupons on their website for discounts for a family of four. See www.funopolisfamilyfuncenter.com for more.
~Washington Farms lets you pick your own strawberries during the summer and pumpkins in the fall. They also have hay rides, a corn box, play area, and petting zoo for the kids. See www.washingtonfarms.net for hours, events, and pricing.
~Check out packaged deals. If you’re interested in visiting several Georgia attractions this summer, check out the deal that the Atlanta Braves is offering: admission to a Braves game, Stone Mountain, Six Flags, World of Coke, and the Georgia Aquarium for $99 a person. That’s a savings of $53 over buying each admission individually. If you’re interested, see http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/atl/ticketing/mvp.jsp for more.
~Don’t forget to take advantage of Daily Deals. The Banner Herald publishes a different deal each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday that you can purchase to get 50% or more off local restaurants, attractions, services, and attractions. See www.onlineathens.com for more on saving on your staycation experiences.
Here’s hoping the kids don’t wear you out this summer. As always, stay informed about local deals and events through our blog: www.onlineathens.com/savvyshopper. Happy savings!
