Exotic animals visit the Athens Kids’ Expo
Experience exotic animals up close at the first Athens Kids’ Expo, slated for Saturday, March 27 at the Classic Center. Exotic rabbits from a French Lop-Eared bunny to an English Angora join with South American Parrots and other fun animals at the petting zoo, presented by Kopp’s Kritters of Athens.

Founded by Venessa Banks, the Athens Kids’ Expo includes information on camps, day care and party ideas. This fun-filled family event brings together almost 40 vendors for parents and children.
“I have a 3-year-old, and realized that there needed to be one place for all the resources that parents need,” Banks says. “That’s the idea behind the Expo — to give people a one-stop place to learn about all the resources available in the Athens area.”
Free face painting, pony rides, bounce houses, balloon artists and entertainment will complete the day.
Kopp’s Kritters was created by UGA retiree Tom Kopp and Linda Bishop, who holds a degree in education. “We just love animals, and found that this was a great way to help children who grow up in the city understand about our furry friends,” Bishop said. The pair does programs in schools, for birthday parties and festivals.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 per person. Children under 2 are admitted free. A portion of the Athens Kids Expo’s proceeds will go to benefit the Athens Boys & Girls Club. For more information about the Athens Kids’ Expo, visit www.athenskidsexpo.com.
